600 hp cat

I am looking at a Beaver with a 600 HP , I have heard that the Cat is poor on MPG. Would I be better off with a Cummins 600?

Just wondering what you would expect a rig with that large of an engine to get in terms of MPG?

YUP - that's seems to be the way some figure...

Seems a shame, that with all our smarts, we still haven't figured a way to HAVE our cake, and EAT it too!

You're probably looking at a GCWR of 45-50k pounds and I would guess the MPG range will be 5-6.5 with either. If the Cat was at the bottom of the range and the Cummins was at the top, what practical difference is there?

Both engines will give you between 5 and 7 mpg. Dependent on the way you drive and the terrain.
They compete against each other in the heavy truck industry and both sell well.
Personally I wouldn't be unhappy with either engine and wound consider floor plans etc to determine which coach to purchase.
