6000 miles @ 7 mpg

So I guess this is good as it will get. I was hoping for a little better.

Left home in October with almost 4000 miles on coach (2014 Winnebago 31KE on F53 18000 lb chassis) so it was broken in. Returned last week with just under 10,000 miles. Kept careful records of mpg. There was wind and there was mountains. I have a light foot and also rarely exceeded 60 mph as toad has a 65 mph restriction. Toad is a 2013 Chevrolet Sonic (about 2800 lbs). Toad brake system is integrated into the tow bar (Ready Brute Elite) and I know it wasn't ever dragging.

Got as low as 5.9 mpg (Oklahoma head wind) and as much as 8.4 (between Winslow AZ and Boulder City NV). Wind was the biggest factor. I doubt that the toad had any impact at all.

So that's the real deal. Don't know if there's much variation in the F53 but I know others have reported better mpg so I was hopeful.

Some people report their mpg the same way they report the size of the fish the caught.

We average about 8mpg, and we have a little over 10,000 miles on ours. I was told they aren't really broken in until you get about 12,000 miles on it, so you may get a little better. We haven't pulled a Toad yet, and do not run the generator very often while on the road as it is generally just the two of us and we don't need the roof air. We have gotten as high as 10, long flat on the I-40 between Barstow and Laughlin with a tailwind, and as low as 6 climbing the Cajon Pass or Baker grade as part of the trip. We occasionally will get 9 when traveling along the Coast on the 101. We drive about the same speeds you do, our dry weight is 20,400, we have the 22.5 tires and 5.38 rear end ratio so that may make a little difference.

I had always thought that I got +8.5mpg until I got my Silverleaf system, which seems pretty accurate as to fuel consumption.

Now I know that I I average 7.5mpg pulling a Jeep Grand Cherokee and my coach weighs ~35K. I drive the speed limit, if it's 70 I go 70, which I know probably hurts my mpg.

I average 8.2 over 6,000 miles early this year. speed around 60-62. I may be a little lighter and shorter than yours. I use the cruise control, It doesn't seem to do a lot of hunting. On my old Toyota class C, I would get better mileage without CC, I believe it would hunt a lot, i.e. pumping the gas pedal instead of nice smooth movement

Magna weighs over 48,000#'s towing a Honda Odyssey, VMS is showing 7.1 for a 3,000 mile roundtrip to AZ. Includes Tehachapi and Grapevine and sitting in traffic too. I expected 7.5 but it is what it is.

Little off topic, but I noticed your toad is a turbo model Sonic, with I assume, automatic transmision (AT).
I also flat tow a Sonic, but everything I've read says the turbo model with AT is'nt flat towable .

Ditto for my older v-10, 23K chassis 2003, with Seabreeze 1341 on top of it, dragging chevy Malibu Maxx (little heavier), similar driving habits, and similar results. Overall avg since purchase 7.3 MPG. With little variation as I have no mountains. Been as high as 8 low as 6.5, but doubtful that is real, think is is short fill ups due to angle at stations when filling, maybe wind. Funny thing is can feel the difference on acceleration without toad, but does not manifest itself in MPG!

6.44 mpg spread sheet average on a 7500 mile trip out west two years ago towing the CJ7. Not happy, but it is what it is.
