7.5 Gen set in my 2005 Itasca, Meridian is shuting down after about a minute of run time. Glo plug won't come on either. Fault code of 1 and 33 which is "overheating". This is not the case, doesn't run long enough to get hot. Problem is faulty temp. sensor. I have read about the extreme difficulties in getting to this sensor. Can anyone direct me to the end of the white wire that comes from the sensor? is it accessable so that it can be disconnected. I know this is just a temporary fix.

Hello & Welcome to IRV2.

Sorry to hear about your problem with your Genset. The problem is the water temperature sensor. Contact Onan with the model &Serial Number for the water temperature sensor replacement part or you can take it to an Onan service center for repair.

I had a sensor go bad and they had to remove the genset from the coach to get to it. If they take yours out have them replace everything on that side or stuff that is hard to get to while it's out including the fuel line. I would suggest going to a Cummings dealer to have it done.

You should state the make and model of your generator. I have a generac 75D that does not roll out and I replaced my sensor. You need to get the top cover off and in order to do that I had to take off the front panel and the drivers side panel. My sensor was on the back side of the motor near the top. I could not see it but you can see the wire and follow it to the sensor. You can get the wrench size from the new one or just do it by feel. For something I couldn't see it actually wasn't that bad to replace, the covers are the worst part.

You haven't had the coolant changed have you? So don't know that you just can't refill then by putting the coolant in the reservoir tank.

I am aware of three water temperature sensor failures in friend's coaches. In those cases, the generator had to be removed from the coach to get to the temp sensor, not an easy task. Hope yours is easier than that.

If you disconnect the sensor, you will get a fault 24 instead - no coolant temp sensing - and the genny will shut down after 5 minutes. It won't let you run without receiving a signal from the sensor.

The coolant sensor can be difficult to get at in many coaches and also is fairly likely to be seized in place. There is a heat shield to one side that gets in the way, plus the coach body itself probably makes it awkward unless the genny pulls out on a slide.

Thanks for all the replies and especially you Gary RV. You are correct about code 24 and saved me a lot of time. I got a wiring diagram from Onan and now know how to get to the wires. but will have to try a different approach

You may want to do a search for user Fire up over at RV.net. For some reason I thought he did a very detailed write up on his itasca a while back with pictures.
