88 Bounder--Onan 6.5--Changed Oil--Added 2 Qts--Nothing on Dipstick

Onan Generator---Model 6.6 NHE 1R/26100a---Serial E87o897230. This is in an 88 Bounder. When I drained the oil, way more than 2 qts came out, plus that which was in the filter. Added new filter and 2 qts of oil, screwed the dipstick in and nothing showed at all. Began to add more a little at a time and at 3 full qts. it finally showed on the dipstick at just below the add mark. I ran it to get oil in the filter and checked it, and still just below the add mark. Everything I have found says it should only take 2 qts. So, what do you guys think??? Thanks

Any chance there's a typo, have you double checked the spec's with the MFG? I'm going on the assumption that everything is level and the dip stick is good, nothing funny going on there. How much oil did you drain? Beyond that I'm like you at a loss. Good luck hope you or someone else may have some insight into your issue.

Some of these were made without replaceable oil filters (had a 1987) without. They would list 2 different capacities.

You may have an extended run generator in which case it will hold 3.5 to 4 quarts. Just fill it to the full mark.
