95 Monaco. Major electrical fault

Howdy rv people. So my buddy called me up after replacing a started failed to fix his rv. Turns out he's got way more problems. He owns a 1995 manaco with the cummins I believe 300hp with the Allison. So onto the issue. When you only turn on the chassis power. The revs fine gauges work, lights and everything. However as soon as u turn on the switch for engine power. Bam everything dies. The battery maintainer box is cycling on and off always. Which leads me to think there's a short. I took off the cables from the start to check them. Even odder, The positive, solenoid wire and ground all have coninutity within each other. So am thinking maybe we have a head short. However without any wire diagrams. I am lost. can anyone help me

help

Yes the rv just failed to start. my friend has assumed the starter was gone. he informed me that when he reinstalled it he sparked the battery cables and the damaged was clear to his post somthing went wrong. so any or a wirring diagram would be great because I can't find any fuses.

Ok, then if the batteries had a charge , then the short didn't exist before the starter change , ( a dead short would have drained them in no time ) my starter has a power cable and a ground cable attached , BOTH ARE BLACK, so they would be easy to cross up when changing the starter.
Remove all wiring from the starter, and insulate from ground, then hook up the batteries and see if the problem still exists, if no arcing occurs on connecting, then test the cable ( s ) at the starter for correct positive and negative, with a voltmeter, mark them and then disconnect the batteries and hook the cables back up to the starter, and re-connect the batteries, watching for an arc.
There is the possibility of a bad re-built starter, but they are usually bench tested to prevent a bad one making it's way to the customer.
Hope this cures your problem.

yes its hard since I wasn't there to see the sparks. I checked cable to cable and matched them but the main problem being that pos and neg have continuity between. each other. If some one has a wirring diagram of a similar model it would help. I want to know if there's a shared positive post somewhere. I can't see where positive runs after the starter.
