A&E 9000 Elite Awning

I hope there is someone on here that is an "AWNING GURU". While in a state of confident bliss, I had a utility pole jump into the side of my Adventurer and put a sizable dent in the weathershield . It was deep`enough to put a dent in the awning roller also. It was quite a while before I had the guts to try the awning but when I did, it worked rather well coming down. However, when I put it back up, the weathershield cannot wrap around the awning tube tightly enough.
The awning material is in good shape and studying the setup with the shield, it looks as if the shield could be removed and either pounded into shape or discarded. Perhaps the sections of the shield can be purchased separately.
Has anyone ever removed the weather shield and, if so, did it operate successfully or scatter along the side of the road?
Thanking you in advance;
geezerb
P.S.--- While you think poles can't jump, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
