Our 31 ft. motorhome has 1 a/c unit located up front and it works real good, just had it service and no problems found. The problem is my wife and I like our bedroom cool when we sleep. It just seems to us we don't get the air flow or cool air back there like whats up front. We are planning on heading to Texas and with this heat wave going on we are not sure if one unit is enough. During the day it won't be to bad, it just the night and sleeping. We also travel with 2 dogs that also need the cool. They sleep up front while we sleep in the back rm. Any suggestion? Do they make a small a/c unit we could install ourself in the back roof vent? Measure 13 1/2" inside. We would just like to cool it off so we can sleep at night. Thanks for any help.

It's highly likely 1 AC will not work for you this time of year in Texas, so prepare for the worst. If you are parked in the morning, make sure you cool the coach as much as possible before it gets hot. Of course if you are traveling each day, you will be running dash air in addition.

That back vent is the standard size to accomodate a rear AC unit and it may already be wired for one. So that is an option.

You can also get a portable AC unit. You place it where you need it and plug it in. The only caveat is, it comes with a vent "hose" that vents the hot air out of the coach. So you need to do that in such a way the hot air can expel and not let the hot outside air back in. In others words, it needs a fairly tight seal.

You may install a 2nd A/C unit, this one has two units. If you don't want the expenditure, try using a 20" box fan to blow the cool air back to the bedroom. We have central basement air and DW uses a box fan on low in hot weather to circulate interior air at night.

I installed a second AC unit in our previous coach, a 29 foot Thor ACE. As Clyon51 said, the ceiling vent hole is a standard size BUT you should check with the manufacturer for roof loading. A typical 13.5 AC unit weighs in excess of 100 pounds. If the coach is not prewired, you'll need to run a 20 amp 120 volt line, and most units need 12 volts as well. I used surface mounted plastic wiring channel, not very pretty but a whole lot easier than pulling cable through the walls. The simplest installation would be to install a 20 amp breaker box and run a drop cord from the 20 amp outlet on the campsite pedestal to it.
