I had a Hawkins HMC that had the CAT 3208. The Onan generator had been an LP fueled unit but the previous owner had converted it to run on gasoline. He was a national drag racer and found it more convenient to have the genset run on gasoline, which he could refill more easily vs. running out of propane and no way to refill while at the track.

It was a very clean conversion and gas tank install that worked great for the years we owned it.

My 99 Triple e Signature came from the factory with an Onan 7000 gasoline generator. Coach is a diesel pusher with a 3126b Cat. If interested I could post pics of the two fill ports behind the fuel door.
The generator runs at a constant 1800 rpm's and is very quiet. I ran one ac unit for close to 40 hours in the daytime during a heatwave last summer while visiting Alberta on one tank of fuel.
Only complaint is it smells like your following an older pre emissions car. You need to get the exhaust away.
