A Shocking Account
A few weeks ago I was heading out to visit my parents for a couple of days, pulled the RV out of the garage the night before to get things prepped before leaving. In the morning, I washed the windshield since it wasn’t done from my last outing. With washing the windshield the ground was wet and I was barefoot. I had not been in the RV so it was still locked. While standing barefoot on the wet driveway, I placed the key into the lock. While putting the key into the lock I noticed a slight tingle from my fingertips. When trying to turn the key, the more I put pressure on the key the more shocking it was, to the point where I could not put enough force on the key to unlock it. Why I kept trying, I cannot explain other than it became a challenge that I finally gave up on. I went and put my shoes on and was able to unlock the door without issue. Really no telling how long this has been going on since I’m typically not standing barefoot in water trying to unlock the door or I guess just touching the metal structure.
The issue turned out to be internally to the 50 amp cord on the RV side. The green wire had somehow pulled out of the wire lock-down of the receptacle part that plugs into the RV, not just loose but out. I did check and all other wires and they were still tight. I went ahead and cut and stripped all wires and secured all nice and tight. This took care of the issue.
