With the side intake behind a closed compartment door, it's going to suck heated air back up into the generator. I really think a vent sealed against the inside of the compartment door with vents in the door will ensure cool(er) outside air will be drawn in.

That would make sense that more in makes more out too.

Added a vent to my gen compartment. This vent is installed at factory on FR3's with 4k Onan.

That is sweet! You don't need to do anything to keep the heat from underneath out of there!. Somebody was paying attention.

Sent this to Fleetwood and my dealers this morning.
Fleetwood replied in 2 hours with confirmation to Neil's RV and kit is under warranty and on order!
This is the second time I have gone direct to Fleetwood and been quickly taken care of.

My generator is located on the driver's side, the last space before the back wall of the RV, and the 4000 intake vent side is mounted 4.5 " away from the side wall. So, I did not have as bad a situation to start with as the OP. In my case, to make sure the hot air blowing out the duct I added did not get back around to the intake I also mounted a piece of insulating foam panel board that covers the space back where the exhaust comes out ...
