Addding an extension to the sofa bed

My sofa bed only opens to 54', anyone know of a way to extend to say 72', which is what is doable to the dinette.
I did find extend a bed for vans for around $248.00, but shipping was $250.00 from California to NC.
I was hoping someone else has or had this problem and has a solution.

I hope you get some suggestions, Ron. I have been looking at the same situation and it looks like I will need to cut out a section of the back of the bench. This will require a hinge or a slide in/out for the cut out section. The back cushion will need to be cut and reupholstered into 3 sections. The cut out section will need to be supported so that the occupant of the bed can use the extension for his legs. This is not my idea of a fun project.

My bed is useless for anyone except a child.

Perhaps a creative solution. How about a coffee table or trunk. I piece of plywood for the width and foam rubber on top. The truck or coffee table would be useful during the day. The piece of plywood should store under the bed. Finding a place to store the foam may take some thought, depending on the coach. I would think this would go at the foot of the bed, so there really would not be much actual weight on it.

At least those are my thoughts, and I have the same situation, but right now, I am going with "Sorry, our coach only sleeps two".

My bad. I re-read Ron's post and saw that his sofa was the problem, not the dinette. My problem is the opposite. Sorry, Ron.
