That's the best choice.

As several people have mentioned, this can work for you, BUT, IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED. As a retired Engineer, there are several things mentioned by others here that you need to understand;

1- 6-V and 12-V batteries have different charge rates and discharge rates, mostly due to the internal plate size. So, you will have one or the other taking the most of the load at different times.

2- You always want to have batteries that charge and discharge a closely to the same as possible.

3- 6-volt batteries are typically used for the COACH batteries because they have more storage capacity, as two batteries, than one 12-volt battery, thus giving you more power, longer. Which is what we all want.

Sure, you can make a lot of things work for you, but if you want the optimum power for your COACH, use what the manufacturer put in it.

Their design engineers did a lot of study on what your coach needed, and came up with what you have as being the best for you.

Good Luck,

I agree with everything you say, but take a slight exception to this statement.

I believe the engineers came up with what best fits their stated requirements, which may or may not be the same as an individual's requirements.

One person may be a boondocker that is most concerned about ultimate power capacity, with less regard to total cost or maintenance issues.

The next person may always have full hookups and only need battery power to get from one resort to the next, so they may be more concerned about cost than capacity.

The next person may be most concerned about low maintenance.

The requirements that the engineers used to design the battery system is probably a reasonable compromise between potentially conflicting requirements: They likely wanted good capacity, at a reasonable cost that fit the available space and hit their target price point. Those requirements probably yield a good balance for most people, but some with exceptional requirements might be able to do better with a custom solution. That being said, paralleling a 12V with a pair of 6V is probably not in anybody's best interest.

Shapeshifter -

I can't argue with your Logic. We all have different needs as RVers, that's for sure. And we all end up turning our "home on wheels" into something that fits our lifestyle.

As a "Tech Geek", I am always playing around with the electronics in my RV.
Sometimes, I am brilliant, sometimes, sad to say, I do some stupid things. LOL!

Have a great day!
