After market engine compartment lock for DPs

Anyone add an engine compartment lock on a DP? Checked with Newmar & they did not have anything for the Ventana line & referred me to the aftermarket.

Where are you parking that you fear someone will steal your engine? There are many styles of locks and latches available, just match up what type of engine cover you have and you can find latches. Or you could drive by a locksmith and see what they suggest.

I found a chrome hasp lock with a key lock that I could buy two keyed a like.
Won't keep a determined thief out but would keep idle fingers out.
I was worried about the easy access to the oil and transmission add points. Would be awfully easy to throw some dirt or other grit in.

You are probably more likely to lock yourself out of the engine compartment (fire?) than keep a criminal out.

I wasn't aware that engine tampering was becoming a big issue?

Obviously not worried about someone stealing engine! The purpose of the lock is to prevent vandalism to the coolant, oil or trans fill locations when the coach is in storage or overnighting in a parking lot.

I have looked for locks online without much success. I was hoping for a reference to a supplier & part number from anyone who had added an aftermarket latch.

Thank you for your help.

Been there done that. The thread did not contain any references or part numbers to aftermarket sources.

Had never thought about locking the engine compartment but it makes sense to me.

On my front engine rig it would take about one minute to steal my battery, etc.

Agreed. Do you recall where you found the lock? Thanks.

I was thinking about putting on an engine compartment lock when I first moved our then new coach to a public storage facility. I never did do it and have had no ill effects, but this thread got me thinking again. I'll go over and check it out later today, but it seems that something like this --> https://www.carid.com/rv-designer/rv...-59554486.html
might work with little or no modifications.

How many of you had any tampering with engine fluids?
100% of the time I'm only locking myself out.
If someone wants in, they will get in.
The cost to buy a lock, find the correct one will be a pain, can you install it yourself?
Once it is broke into, if ever, the cost to fix the door will be $500 or more.
Where do you go that mischief will happen?
I leave all lower cabinets unlocked. 14 doors x $500 = $7000. Everything in these compartments aren't worth $2000.

The purpose of the thread was to identify sources for locks from those that have installed them. It was not to debate the value of said locks.
