Before I tear into my dash, I'll post my question and see if someone can save me from having my wife yell at me when I have wires and parts scattered everywhere in my attempt to fix this. The problem is simple. When the key is on, I have a dash light telling me that my air brakes are applied. It never goes out. It hasn't gone out in years. Driving down the road, I have that bright red beacon on my dash, and I have ignored it until now. Is starting to bug me.

Is there an easy fix, or do I need to start pulling the dash and looking at that maze of white wires on this Freightliner chassis?

It sounds like that is controlled by the parking brake valve.

Post the year and model of your motorhome, someone may have also had that problem.

Be sure to bleed all the air pressure off before working on the air brakes....

Yep, the problem has got to be related / connected to my air valve. It just doesn't look that easy to access. I have a 2000 Discovery. Hmm, now I wondering if I can access if from the generator compartment on the front. I'll have to look. Keep those cards and letters coming.

Have you spoken to Freightliner Custom Chassis to learn where the sensor is for that light? Could be mechanical on the Park brake push/pull handle, an air sensor that detects the lack of air brake pressure, or an electro-mechanical sensor on the park brake spring mechanism. It would be helpful to know what you are looking for, right?

It's been years, but I seem to remember having a similar problem on the Beaver Patriot we used to own.

Before you do anything drastic under/behind the dash, I strongly recommend you find out where the pressure sensors/senders for that electrical circuit are. IIRC, ours were in the front cap maintenance access area, outside the coach, just below the windshield. The fix was just to replace one or two, can't remember, sending units, small things, with a wire running from them.

Yes, this is not meant to chastise you, only meant to be informative. If and when you have an issue that you'd like help with, it would be nice if you'd also include a description of your coach/engine/trans etc. so that anyone with any experience in the issue you're having, might be able to more accurately answer your issue. They might have a similar coach/chassis/engine etc. that will help them help you.

Now, since you've indicated ONLY that you have a Discovery, I'm assuming you have a Freightliner chassis but, you could have a CAT or a Cummins since both were supplied in that era. A small word of advice here, you should NEVER drive with any warning lights on without checking them out. You say your driving with a light that says your "air brakes are applied" is on, correct? Well, the only light that would have anything to do with that is the PARKING BRAKE light. There are no lights that tell you that air brakes are applied or on.

I just spent some time on Access Freightliner with the air pipeline diagram and all related components. However, while I could find the PARKING BRAKE VALVE, I could not find the parking brake switch. That would tell me where it basically was so I could tell you maybe where to look for it. And, once located, maybe it's sticking in the "On" position, and at least you could check that out and eliminate it from the possibilities of the problem you're having. I'll keep checking to see if I can find that Parking brake switch.
