Air conditioning fail while driving

I was passing thru Phoenix this week when it over 111 degrees. My A/C heat pumps stopped working while driving. Pulled into a rest stop and they restarted and worked fine.
Has this happened to anyone else? Do you think there is an airflow problem for my roof top units?

That's a difficult problem to diagnose without more information. The very first thing I'd do is clean the condenser coils if that hasn't been done recently.

I live and often RV in the AZ desert at those temperatures and higher. I have had it happen 3 times over the last 6 years. The first time at 118 degrees but that time the fins were damaged. The next two times everything was in perfect order and they restarted after sitting for a few minutes.

I have not had that problem but did notice something that might be similar. We have yet to travel in any hot weather as we usually travel during the cooler parts of the year. Anyways a couple of weeks ago we went for a little 75 mile test drive to check a few things over I repaired. It was about 90 degrees outside. With both A/C's running with the fans on high the amp meter usually shows between 27 and 28 amps. I noticed the further we drove the higher the amps went up....as high as 38 amp. When I stopped to turn around it immediately dropped to 34 amps. When I got home I let them run for about 10 minutes or so and it was back to 27/28 amps. I was only driving about 62 MPH. My only guess is that somehow the airflow is affecting the cooling of the condenser coils making the compressor work harder.
