Air Hose Taboo?

I noticed at the Pilot Travel Centers that the 18 wheelers pull around the back to fuel up. At each of the fuel pumps in the back, there is a nice retractable air hose that doesn't require coins to use. The 18 wheelers usually have a waiting line to fuel up at each pump. Would it be taboo for me to pull through there to air up my RV tires?

If it would be taboo, does the coin operated one in the front of Pilot Travel Centers usually have enough power to put 100 psi in my tires?

You don't say what kind of RV you have, diesel or gas. If you are buying diesel fuel use the truck pumps and use the air hose while you are there.

personally,if I needed air in my tires I wouldn't care,i'm not going to pay for air unless it was some kind of an emergency. Buy yourself a good air compressor then you won't have to worry about it.

The truckers probably won't notice that you did not fuel up. Worst case would be that you get a few dirty looks and maybe a comment or two, but those aren't fatal!

As a retired OTR driver I'll tell you to go ahead and use the truck island air, but be prepared to wait in line sometimes and check them out first. Why--because many of them don't work, have broken nozzles or air hoses, or are turned off. As for the coin operated machines--it will cost you plenty of quarters to air your MH tires as they are timed with relatively small compressors that take awhile to fill larger tires.

You didn't mention what type of MH you have, if it is a gas unit do as macantic said, get a good compressor. If you have a DP get an air hose and tap into your own air supply and depending where your air governor is set, you should be able to air your tires to 105-120 PSI.

From what I have noticed, the air chucks will not fit in some aluminum wheel holes where the valve stem is. Most air chucks have an angled head and they just won't fit in the rim holes, at least on my rims they won't. If you can use the chuck, then go ahead and use it

I was the General Manager of a fairly large truck stop and currently involved with the casino operations in several Nevada truck stops and I can assure you that the truck stops appreciate each and every customer that visits their property, and that is why we have the air hoses out there in the first place as a service to our customers.

The RV industry spends a lot of money at Truck Stops and I doubt that any truck stop operator would have any issues with any RV pulling through the fuel lanes and airing up a tire or two. Just use some common sense and don't waste a lot of time washing windows or going inside and ordering to go food when drivers are waiting in line to fuel up. The Drivers will definitely have something to say to you if you cause them to wait unnecessarily.
