Amber light

I recently noticed an amber light illuminated under the chassis near the stairs. Any clue what means???

It's part of the stair assembly.

Yep, it illuminates the step area somewhat.

I changed my yellow/amber light to a nice soft blue LED. Not the bright glare like the old one, but plenty of light to see the steps if it's dark outside.

The particular light I got has been discontinued but they have others. Go into their marine section and look for water proof lights--I believe their application is mounting under the boat's transom or under a dock. That way you'll get the waterproof ones you'll need for putting under the coach. I left the yellow light fixture there (disconnected the wires to it) and mounted the new blue ones on the frame .


Mine are more flood lights, but pointed down under the coach entry steps. You could also get some water proof blue rope light and put it there. I've seen $1.5M Newells and Prevosts with that. The ones I saw had the blue rope light going completely around the coach giving it a very interesting effect, somewhat of a blue 'glow'.


Ebay has a vendor called 'tl-miniworld' that carries rope light in all different colors and configurations. Very competitive pricing. Shipped direct from china. I installed some rope light inside the coach from them several years ago and had no issues at all.

Well Gang,
I wouldn't exactly call the original factory orange light a "glare". In fact, it's pretty dim, to say the least. And, I've never understood the placement of it. I mean, ours is where the light was placed from the factory and, it shed absolutely NO LIGHT on the steps what so ever. It did barely light up the ground behind the steps. Well, to me, that was useless.

So, I "Tim Allen'ed" it. I gave it more power. I installed an LED light strip, on the bottom lip of the door jamb. I removed that junk orange one and used the circuit and the power to light up that LED strip. Waaaaaaaaaaaaay better in our outlook.

Then, I wired another one, on the bottom front lip of the first step. Now, you can CLEARLY see the ground and the steps. The one that lights up the steps is controlled by opening the door. The one lights up the ground, is independent and is controlled by a small toggle just inside the door. And by no means is it TOO BRIGHT. it's there to do what I wanted, light up the step and the ground so there's no mishap when entering at night.

I did the same as "Fire Up" on my previous coach. If you go to Walmart, in the automotive section, they sell LED strips, 12" long that are perfect for the job. They have the two side tape and you can just wire them straight into the amber light wiring.

I put an in line switch on mine on a previous coach. That way I could turn it off so it did not stay on the entire time the door was open.

Mine is controlled by the porch lite. when you turn the porch lite on that step light comes on also.

Let me ask you something. Is your step a Kwikee? If so, does it have a mode switch on or near the door? If so, does it work in such a fashion that, with the switch in one position, the steps stay out, as normal, no matter how many times the door is opened or closed, until the ignition is turned on and the door is closed?

Then, with the switch in the other position, even with the ignition off, the step will go out and back in, each and every time you open the door, correct?

And, in these two different modes, your light will operate differently too. If I recall, in the "Park" setting, the light will remain on, for only a certain amount of time, even though the door remains open. Then after a short time frame, maybe five minutes or so, it will go out. The park setting is the one where the steps go out and back in, with each opening and closing of the door.

But, in the other setting, where the steps remain extended, even when the door is closed, the light will remain on, indefinitely, as long as the door is open.


If you don't have the mode switch, forget everything above.
