We have to rinse cycle our Washer Dryer every so often because the Trap water evaporates if not used. Smells just like black tank.

^^^^ what they said --- two sinks in the baths and we rarely use one of them so p-trap water all evaporated out - phew

AMAZING how that grey water can smell !

asked the grand daughter if she 'popped a squat' (her term) in the sink

Mechanical Air Vents may need to be replaced.

Two examples below. I like the ones made by Studor (first two photos), more expensive but worth the extra cost.

If you don't have a washer/dryer check the connection for the washer drain. My coach stunk when new until I noticed there was no cap on the drain to the tank was not capped/closed. There should be an access panel in your washer cabinet

One other item worth mentioning... if the smell is like rotten eggs, check your batteries. Batteries that have boiled dry are very smelly.

my problem appears to be different... i am sure the smell comes from restroom under the sink, and it is from gray tank, but with a brand new air admittance valve (bought from home depot STUDOR, Redi-Vent with PVC Adapter Valve, 20353 at The Home Depot - Mobile), the smell refuses to go away. now i have to stop using the grey tank after dumped it. as the last resort, when i have enough tools (i am still on the road), i will probably tear the bottom carpet/board of the under sink to see what are there.

sarah, the smell is kinda fishy, not a typical smell from black tank nor rotten egg; but we hadn't cooked seafoods

Try treating the grey tank with Happy Campers to see if the smell subsides.

i thought that as well but i could only order it from online and no place i could have them ship to for we are on the road.. by the way that would only be a temp solution, i still need to find out the root cause.

I am southern Nevada this week, heading for Arizona next week. This afternoon I went to the bathroom to wash my hands. What a smell I got! Rembering this thread, I looked under the sink, but I do not have an air admittance trap like the ones mentioned here. The sink drain went down and the vent went up out of sight. I understand the P-trap getting dried out...makes sense. But once the trap gets filled with water, where does the smell come from?

You also may have p-traps in the shower drain and washer/dryer drain in the area.

hi dean, nice hearing from you... do you know where the p-trap for w/d is at? i suspect the gremlin plays in my part if the event is also in below restroom sink cabinet
