To clarify, you purchased a Safe-T-Plus and was going to be installed when you got home. It was not installed when the tire blew out?
Reason I'm asking is I've got one on my coach and was interested to see if it worked or not.

Lisa, that sucks. Like others, I'll be interested in hearing more details as the are revealed. That said, I'll also be looking forward to following your next RV adventure, which presumably will lean more toward fun, less toward terror!

Glad you folks are OK. I have had several flats (rear and front) but never a blowout on the front. We will be making a cross-country trip this summer in our new-to-us DP and plan on changing all 6 tires (front dated 2009 and rear dated 2011).

I have a friend that had one of his rear 22.5" tires blow, in the middle of the night, while he and his wife were sleeping in bed. They were parked in a FL campground at the time. He told me he jumped about a foot off the mattress.

I too am sorry to hear of your accident. I am so glad that you folks and your pets are ok.
Your husband did a fine job in handling the situation as it could have been much worse. He days of trucking experience probably were a factor, but as an old trucker myself I know there was some good luck involved as well.
I have had several front blowouts over the years and they were all different. People will tell you that his will help and that will help but the sad fact is when that front tire blows it is a crap shoot at best. When that carcass of the tire balls up it is like one of your legs going paralyzed and you are going to fall.
Good luck in finding a good coach and enjoy as the worst is behind.

So sorry to hear about the blowout, and also so glad you're all (Fur people too...) doing well!!!

I quoted Tom, as it is so important that people owners understand that in a very short period of time, a previous owner could have seriously jeopardized the condition of a tire. Running too low of pressure. Having a flat on one tire of a dual, and then riding it to the shop to be repaired, with the partner dual tire carrying the full load. Pot hole impact. Road debris impact. Etc., Etc.

You can see some damage by visual exterior inspection. Including getting down and under the coach to inspect the inside of the tire, duals too, take a flashlight! I also know of three new owners of used coaches, that I felt did some prudent insurance. Two owners took the coach into their tire shop, paid to have them unmounted and inspected, and remounted/balanced. The third elected to replace all tires, at age 3 1/2, so that he would know the history of the care of the tires.

Some of these coaches are over 40K Lbs going down the road, with 6 or 8 little patches of compound making contact to the ground. You can only accelerate, turn, brake as good as your tires are.

OP - Good thoughts going forward to you guys, as you resolve the business part of this recovery!

Wow!! Scary but glad everyone is OK!
I guess a blowout can happen to anyone, luckily in my over 55 years of driving I've only had one and it was a GoodYear on the drivers side rear of our '97 Jeep GC. Just pulled over, called work, changed to the spare and went to work, late but OK.
Hopefully you can find another rig and get back to traveling.

Thank god your all well! Really makes you stop and think what would happen if it happened to you! I know at times I find myself running a little fast trying to make up time on some of our trips. The next thing I'm installing is a safe t steer and definitely going to slow it down a bit. I just have this scene play out in my mind of descending one of the big hills in Tennessee with a curve at the bottom and a tire blowing out at 70mph as I approach the curve. Scary!

Wow, glad to hear you guys are ok. I don't think I could ever get my wife back in a MH if that ever happens to us. You've got a great spirit and attitude about this. Good luck on finding another MH. As bad as this is you are right, God was watching over you and taking care of you guys.

Yes, bought but hadn't installed yet. Tires were a year old,pressure checked before we left, most likely debris from the road. Florida highways are riddled with debris.I'm sure your Safe-T-Plus will protect you , check out the videos on their site and testimonials, it's why we bought it, only regret was not installing before we left.
