I would have been worn out from climbing out the egress window after pushing my wife out and not sure how the fire extinguisher would have helped even if I could have gotten to it. What am I missing here?

Possibly not.

However all accidents are not the same. And if someone was trapped inside and you saw smoke I''ll bet you might get a door open. This accident illustrates how some portions of an RV are not available in an emergency situation.

I'm just saying an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Ok. I got it. I wasn't thinking "third person" on the outside. Good point. Just need to find a decent looking "fire extinguisher location" placard to stick on the bays. Thanks

The windshield may have popped out from the impact from driving into the ditch. As a former tow truck driver I have seen that happen.
