Another Step Question

DH recently replaced the controller for the rear slide (thanks for the help!) and in doing so, disconnected the battery. The controller was installed and the slide works perfectly BUT the steps are now having seizures.

When closed, they would extend then retract/extend an inch or so several times causing a bang bang bang noise. They were opening normally though. We were getting ready to head out so thought we'd deal with it later. We got to the campground, opened the door and the steps functioned perfectly. Problem solved!! We just needed to go camping.

When we started home, the steps were extending fine but when retracted, we could hear the motor noise continue like it was opening & closing. Now, if the steps extend, they jerk back & forth several times (5-10) then stay extended and when retracted, the motor noise continues like it's trying to open or close for several times.

It seems like it's electrical but DH has disconnected everything, cleaned posts, checked ground wires. He did get those little gear/roller things that we've read about that are for electric windows but hasn't had time to replace the old ones. Before he did that, we wanted to know if there was something else we should check.

Any ideas?

Thanks!!

What brand of step? I just replaced the motor arm on mine as the pivot joint went bad, it was binding up and that was happening to me too.

The brand would have been helpful! It is a LCI double step coach step. Thanks, I'll add pivot arm to the list of things to check.

Sorry I skipped that little detail!

A little penitrating oil on the joints might help.

Dragging this up to report that DH replaced the motor and all is good now. He dissected the old motor and found those 3 little plastic doodads that have been mentioned as the problem in various posts and feels that is what was causing the issue. They are used in power windows in cars and apparently can't take the stress of these steps and one side gets flattened.

He replaced the mutilated ones in the old motor and we'll hang onto it for a spare.
