Just for some clarifications, both the regular driver license manual, and the CDL manual identify a Class A as: "gross combination weight rating of 26,001..." So it is not a GVWR but a GCW. There is a big difference. If you have a motorhome that weighs 20,000 pounds and a trailer weighing 10,000 pounds your GCW is 30,000 pounds and need a Class A, so the flow chart below, on the first line, should be:
.....Is the GCW > 26000#?
(but I could be mistaken, I'm not a college graduate)
