Any recommendations for Texas gulf coast CG

Does anyone have a recommendation for campgrounds on the Texas gulf coast between Corpus Christi (east) and the Louisiana boarder? Will be travelling that area in March 2011. Looking for ideas. We want to stay close to the coast and hit the beaches.

One if the nicest RV resorts in Texas is just north of Corpus Christi on the coast - Gulf Waters (just south of Port Aransas).
Port Aransas TX Texas USA US Gulf Waters RV Park Beach Front Resort Community Corpus Christi

Across the bay on the mainland in Aransas Pass is Ransom Road Ransom_Road_RV_Park. Not on the beach, but still very nice. There are many other parks in this general area, but these are two of the nicest.

Moving up the coast, when you get to Galveston Island, perhaps the nicest resort there is Jamaica Beach RV Resort Jamaica Beach RV PARK. It is not "on the beach", but the beach is across the street. If you want "on the beach", you can go to Galveston State Park, but it's not is such good repair these days.

As you head further east, the pickings get slim, since IKE took out most of the camping on the Bolivar Pennisula, although a few places have reopened.

As you move further east, it gets more industrial and many of the parks are filled up by fivers housing contract personnel working in the plants. You might check out this RV park on Pleasure Island at Port Arthur Pleasure Island RV Park in Port Arthur, TX, but the beaches are not like you will find south of Corpus Christi or over in the Florida panhandle.

Enjoy.

Matagorda, tx

Check out the LCRA/Lower Colorado River Authority RV park in Matagorda. Right on point of land where colorado meets the gulf. Not big but very nice park. Some spaces are on river bank and you could fish from your space. Nice gulf beach just a short walk. Also some parts of beach set asside for vehicles. From what I saw don't try it without four wheel drive. Google earth will give you a great idea of what park and surrounding area is like. Not much to see or do in area other than birding, fishing, beaching, swiming, kayack (park rents a couple.) Great place for R & R.

Galveston State Park is improving on their sites. Our trip through there a month or so ago was promising. We live about 25 miles from there.

Here is my suggestion. Use Bing Maps. Type in the area you are interested in by city or town. The map will bring in that location. Then, in the Bing pane, type in RV Park. The map will be populated with the rv parks for that area. You will be able to see which ones are close to water. As you drag the map around the rv parks will be re-populated. When you see one that may interest you, check it out on RV Park Reviews. Do not take RV Park Reviews as a "gospel" place to get information. Come back here and ask questions also.

If you are interested in any around the Texas City area (Galveston), let me know and if possible I will go to it and personally check it out for you. There are many more that are not on the water, but within easy driving distance.

Happy trails.

There's a nice new cg on Hwy 35 in Fulton, TX. It's called Sportsman's. I'm not sure about daily prices, but their monthly $$ is $250. Has a private fishing pier you walk out to.

Fulton is 30 miles up the coast from Corpus Christi.

We enjoyed the Gulf Waters park last summer. Very nice facility, and walk across the boardwalk to the beach.
