Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

I would never use the RV ladder to carry bikes! The jarring up and down puts stress on the ladder that it wasn't designed for!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Why don’t you get a bike rack that fits the car?

Ran one of those for 2 years. 2 bikes loaded on. Florida to Washington and the back to Missouri. Worked fine. Only issue was handlebars rubbing on the coach.

When we went FT 3 years ago, we carried our bikes on a hitch-mount carrier on our toad. They wobbled a lot and the braces to secure them wore through the paint and abraded the bikes' top bar.
So 2 1/2 years ago I got a ladder-mount carrier for our bikes. It's light-weight so I guess it's aluminum. I feel the bikes are secure. Since then we've put on > 15,000 miles, from Arizona to Michigan, Florida, Minnesota, Oregon, California, and back to Michigan. The only problems we've encountered were self-inflicted ()

Well, one problem I haven't solved yet. When the bikes were carried horizontally on the toad, I had a good cover to protect them from weather. I haven't found a good way to cover them when carried vertically on the ladder-mount. Still, I'd use a ladder-mount.
