Honestly I had no idea any MH actually used 240V. This must be a new thing with the advent of all electric coaches.

Not at all new. It simply wasn't common except in very high end models, Prevosts conversions, Newells, Wanderlodges, etc. I recall parking next to a Royale Prevost back around 1998 and soon learned that his generator (16KW!) started occasionally. Turned out, he had a 240v stove/oven, 240v clothes dryer, and a 240v heater element for the Aquahot system. He could occasionally exceed what the 50A shore pole could supply, and his coach automatically started the genset when needed to supplement power.

Nowadays there are quite a few more coaches in that class and with major power consumption needs.

Thank you Scatterbrain, for stating it simply and clearly. Some of the previous answers given were lamebrain. NEC Code is a standard and must be followed. Your RV expects a STANDARD socket to plug into.

People please get someone that knows what he or she is doing.The correct term is 50 amp 240volt single phase I know it has 2 hots but that is the correct term.the formula is P over I x E P = watts I = amps E = volts any 2 of these will give you the 3 rd number. Please make sure you do NOT install this wrong or you WILL have 240 volts at your recpt and that will burn everything up very fast.I am or was and electrician now retired. As for Delta wye of a transformer you do NOT need to know this. If it was 3 phase than you would. If you do hook this up yourself use 6 gu wire up to 100 feet than 4 gu up to 200 feet. This is for the voltage drop that happens. As voltage goes down the amps go up causing the breaker to pop. When people say they do not have 50 amps at the plug in, what is really happing is you do not have the correct voltage remember voltage drop that is what happens.
