Auto Step not working stuck in the up position

I am not sure what happened to my steps, they will not extend and I checked the linkage abd did the test on the coach side of the wires and all is good, door cut-out and key cutout work. The steps are in the up position and I can not reach the cotter key so I can remove the pin to let them down so I can work on them. Any suggestions?

Do you have a 12vdc signal to the step motor when door is opened? What are the cutouts you mentioned?

I have power at the coach side of the plug on the 12 v side to the unit, the step light comes on when the door/screen is open and the cut-out for the ignition and the door both indicate that they are working correctly. I am going to do the 12 v test in the book to see if I can get the motor to work. I have pulled the pin and have the step in the down oposition now. anu ideas from anyone who has had this would be appreaciated. Thanks

On my steps they can be locked in the 'up' position to have easier access to the batteries under the steps. Once the door is closed and the steps automatically retract, I can move the step switch on the wall by the door to the 'closed' position. Then I can open the door and the steps will stay retracted. The steps will stay retracted until I close the door and move the swith to the 'open' position. Just a thought.
