Automatic Door Opener (Handicap Access)

I own a '03 Winnebago Brave that was factory modified by original owner for a wheelchair lift. A door was cut on the curb side after relocating the bath/shower, then a commercial wheelchair lift was installed.

I wish to add a door opener/closer to the inside of the outwardly opening door so that I can open/close the door myself rather than needing someone (my wife) having to be there for that function.

Any information or suggestions will be appreciated.

I did some internet searching back when you first posted but I couldn't find anything. I think it's going to be a matter of the right person coming along and seeing your post. One of the sources I did find, here: Automatic Door Opener - Handicap Door Openers - Power Access Corporation seemed a little large for an RV. Deep in the recesses of my mind I think I may have saw a post on either iRV2 or RV.net years ago that was a wheelchair lift and door opener but I couldn't find it again.

Thing that makes it a little more difficult is that you have a chair lift already installed and the door opener would need to be installed around that device. Then there's the problem of the latch, that would need to be electric and suitable for the thin walls of an RV.

But here's a custom shop that you might call, perhaps they can give you a lead: Wheel Chair Accessible Trailers Handicap Park Models Wheel Chair Accessible Travel Trailers Fifth Wheel

Auto door opener

I think the main reason you did not get a reply was, no one had an answer for you. As the one person who did reply said, he had trouble finding anything online to solve your problem.

One more thing that may help in your future quests for assistance with RV issues is, please give as much info as possible. You did give RV info, but how about where you live? That could make a difference in finding a place for servicing your RV.

A fellow RV club member just had his coach modified with a chair lift or his wife and may be able to help. I will contact him, tell him of your needs and see if he can help.

Good Luck!

Darryl

More info

JimT

I should have mentioned I live in Southern California, which may be of little help to you if you live on the East coast!

You could look into electrified door closures. I have used then in stick and brick homes but never in rv. I will be in location where i have install some middle of next week. I will try to look at specs. They may only need low voltage. More to follow in a week or so.

Contact the lady at Winnebago specialty vehicles. I imagine they can help you find a source since they can install such a device.

That sounds great! So glad it worked out to your satisfaction.

Would you please give me the manufacturers' names & model numbers of the door opener/closure & the automatic switch plate & lock/unlock.

Since I live on the Gulf Coast of Alabama, it isn't practical for me to come to CA to get the work done, but with the information that you send, perhaps I can get it done locally.

Also, please send pictures (interior shots) of the opener & the latch to my email address: jtneil@gulftel.com

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I cannot find the info you are looking for. I believe the fabricator used an industrial opener and built the mounts around it. He also wired it in conjunction with the Ricon lift so that it operates with the Ricon remote.
