I am about to buy a house that has a 6 inch straight up and down curb/gutter. I know I can lay a 4x4 in the gutter with a 2x4 in front of it. What I would like is hear any ones ideas on what they use. The 4x4 and 2x4 would be quite cumbersome. Got any suggestions? Ramps, Blocks, etc? The City will NOT let me remove and replace with a rolling curb

So this house does not have a driveway

..Or are you going to park the RV in another place and need another rolling curb ? Is this in a urban downtown area without driveways? I would just make a ramp. D

They make little ramp for this, we own corvettes and I've seen this ramps be advertised in vette books.

Be careful, the "Vette ramps may not hold up a motor home...

Those plastic building blocks they make for leveling an RV. They come in a convenient carry case and can be stack to make a ramp. Once in the spot, just pick them up until the next time you need them.

Another method is to use some 2 x 8's or 2 x 10's. Make two 16 inches long and bevel the end in a 45 degree angle. Cut 2 more 12 inches long to stack on top of the 16 inch one. I used 5/8" plywood on the top of mine to keep the 2x's from splitting in half. I use them to level in my driveway, 3 deep. The 2x8's with 5/8" plywood give me close to 8" of height.

Why not add a little concrete in front of the curb as a short ramp, just to get the tires from making the abrupt transition up the curb. If the city gets their panties in a twist it's easy to remove the ramps. Just don't ask the city for permission !

Problem is, they crush under the weight of some MH's, ours is one!! I gave two sets to my son (minus the crushed ones!!)

The house does have a driveway but the RV parking is off to one side. I have 2 packs of the leveling blocks from my Trailer days and that may work along with 2x10/2x8's you guys have giving me some awesome ideas.

Cement in the gutter will not work because it will block water.....

Without a plywood top, they will crack and split. With the plywood topper they may still crack and/or split but the plywood will not and it will hold the 2x's together. You would have both flat on the ground up against the curb so the pressure would be evenly distributed. I'm only 30,000 pounds but they all hold for me, even in muddy terrain.

LeeB....I have the same issue at my house. I use a 4" x 8" piece of wood with one edge beveled. I put a cabinet handle (bar type) on one end. It makes them easy to carry. You could even use a 1" wood bit and drill a bunch of holes in it to lighten it up.

I painted a black sripe (the width of a piece of electrical tape) on the side of the curb, so when I throw the blocks down in the gutter, I know exactly where they go.

On mine, I have to back uphill and the mud flap drags. I put a small eyebolt through the bottom edge of the flap and one on the frame. Once I put the blocks down, I have a short piece of chain with "S" hooks on both ends and I pull the flap up and chain it to the frame.

Great idea...... 1 question, if you see this how long is your 4 x 8's? Love the handle and drilling 1 inch holes to take weight off.

There made for this, not just vettes. How many people need help with there motorhome getting over curbs? Thats the reason they don't advertise in motorhome books.
