ball joints

Does anybody have any knowledge on the balljoints on a 03 ts.38ft. sparten chasis? my mech. showed me the rubber which was in rough shape,I have 70000 mi. on the coach there is no uneaven tire wear.The unit handles perfect is the rubber just for holding in the grease?....thanks pk42

Hi pk42,
There are reports of the rubber deteriorating on lube for life ball joints on Spartan chassis. Go to the iRV2 Spartan forum at IFS 1200 ball joints and read about it. Even if this does not match exactly your coach, I think the dilemma is the same.

The rubber keeps the grease in and the water and dirt out.

In my old MH the rubber went because of age and not because of miles. I have the equipment to take the ball joints off without damaging them but could not find just the replacement rubber. I carried a grease gun and just fired clean grease into them before any trips. They were tight and had no problems.
