Banking on the road...

For the full-timers out there, any preferences regarding banks? We will be going full time Nov 1. Our current bank is a "Texas only" bank so we'll soon be looking to move to something better available across the US.

Try Well's Fargo. It seems they have branch offices on every street corner

We got away from banks since retirement.

We opened a "Cash Mgmt" account at Fildelity Investments. Direct deposit, free debit card, free checks, NO atm fees anywhere (you are reimbursed), interest paid, complete bill pay service including automatic payments and reminders, all free. Never a NSF fee either!

If you really need a physical bank, Wells Fargo is not available in some fairly large areas. I am not certain why anyone would need a stick and brick bank anymore. We have an account at Wells Fargo near our winter home, but have not been inside for at least five years. Our day to day banking, on the road or at our winter home, is done with ING Direct. They do not even have a physical branch you can walk into. ATMs for cash, and check deposits (yes, still have a few) done with a smart phone.

We use Bank Of America. They are just about everywhere.

Our bank is Wisconsin only, however, we've been doing our banking on-line for years and saw no reason to change when we left. 99% of our payments are issued from the bank, we control those from our computer. If I need cash I can get it at any number of retailers (Walmart, for example) when using our debit card to pay for our purchases. In over a year now, not having a "physical" bank has not been an issue.

I use USAA. I do almost everything online and ATM withdrawals can be done at any bank & they reimburse any bank fees. There is a maximum reimbursable that they will pay each month, but I've never encountered it. They have great customer service.

I use BofA for two reasons, first is because they are always close if I need them, and two, being close means I can get a large amount of cash if I need to do so.

That being said, 99% or more of my banking needs are accomplished utilizing Debit card and electronic banking.
