Basement doors,,,, staying closed....

New owners of our 2008 Thor Presidio. Twice, we have found basement doors open when we made a stop. Luckily no damage, observed them in the mirror and closed before they hit anything.

Yesterday moving the coach around here in the yard, and one opened again. I suspect that the chasis flex (our driveway kinda twists and turns with various elevation changes) ends up disengaging the deadbolt.

Curious if others have run into this? And if they have solutions? Before getting on the road I have made a habit of walking around the coach and pulling on the bottom of each door, however it is clear that is not proof that it won't open later?

Have you check you catch alignment? It could be as simple as the catches are not ,for lack of another word catching. Do you have a single at the bottom or one on each side? I found mine where just missing enough that road vibration would pop them loose even when locked.

Hi, yes mine is one in the center of each door. I have not checked that,,, but that makes sense. Will do that today.

Adjust the latches so they are tighter, may have to drill new screw holes and/or add washers.

Doors latch adjustments

I have had this problem on my Palazzo. Thor fabricated new brackets when I had the coach in at Elkhart, however I continued to have problems. I simply kept adding shims to these new brackets. I still have an occasional door open, now usually top or bottom only. I also think there is too much flex for this type latch.

Thanks everyone!

I took my time and adjusted them all today. Noticed many of them were not engaging all the way. Got full engagement in them now.

I am thinking about some other way to make these really stay closed. Besides costing a small fortune to fix one after it smacks something, it is dangerous.
