Bathroom Sink draining to Black Water tank

I have a 2015 Thor Hurricane 34j.. Is the bathroom sink suppose to be routed to the black water tank because it is... I think the shower is routed there too... Is this a manufacturing mistake?

Nope, that's the way they're plumbed, in fact even lots of Class C's and even some TT's are plumbed that way.

If you are correct, I would say it is wrong because the purpose of the gray water tank is to handle the soapy water from sinks and showers. In most RVs the gray water tank is a good bit larger too, because of greater usage.

My 2000 30q has the bathroom sink drain to the black tank. Thus we use the kitchen sink for most things. Shower drains to the gray as expected. I doubt whatever yours does was a mistake.

By definition the black tank contains toilet waste, the grey tank does not. But the black tank can also contain grey waste, the reverse will get you in trouble. Having the bathroom sink drain into the black tank is by design. Soapy water is not bad for the black tank. What counts is that the three tanks, fresh, grey and black are proportionate to each other and the design intentions.

Lots of people don't use enough water when flushing the toilet so to try and get the proportion right they sometimes plumb the bath sink in to the black tank.

Interesting... This is the first I am hearing about sinks and showers draining to the black tank. To the best of my knowledge, the toilet on my 2013 Itasca Sunstar is the only thing that drains to my black tank. I will have to look further to make sure now.

This issue is all about floor plan and cost. If the bathroom sink is closer to the black tank (likely), then it is probably more cost effective to drain it to the black tank. However, mostly due to expected quantity of waste water, the shower and kitchen sink will most likely go to the grey tank. Specific floor plans MAY require a different answer.
An easy way to determine what goes where is to drain the grey tank completely, then leave the grey tank drain valve open and run water at each sink individually. If nothing comes out, that sink is going to the black tank. I don't recommend doing this test by opening the black tank valve.

I have a 2008 Damon Challenger 378 and the bathroom sink drains in to the black water and shower and kitchen sink go to gray water.

Our previous coach, a Safari Trek, had the bathroom sink going into the black tank by design. Made it easy to put water into the tank after dumping.

Same for some older (mid 1990s) Safaris.

I doubt that your shower is routed to the black water tank.

My bathroom sink drains into my black tank... the tub/shower and kitchen sink drain into the grey tank...the Splendide washer drains into neither tank.
