Battery date code help please

I believe my starter battery in my RV is crap. However, I cannot find verifiable information on how to decipher the battery date/code. Can anyone help? If I'm reading the code right, it would've been made in 05, however the lable says it's a Johnson Controls product and they didn't own Everstart in 05.

The code is 5C05AY1B

Thanks y'all!

Take a look at the attached and see if it will help. According to it, Johnson Controls has a 4-digit code and Exide has a 6-digit date code. Is the code you posted heat-stamped into the case?

Also, this is supposedly how to decipher the date on an Everstart:

I should have pointed out that you should go to #4 in the "Battery Freshness Guide" which is attached above (battery date code info). #4 gives you the explanations as to the date code that is stamped into the batter case/cover of the various manufacturers.

I would verify the alternator is working correctly and you are getting the correct voltage to the battery. If that is the case, just replace the battery.

Everstart is just a private label name for a line of batteries sold through Walmart. It is not "owned by" Johnson Controls - the Everstart distribution network buys batteries from whomever they choose (lowest price, I'm sure). Any given battery size or type may come from a different supplier. The two primary suppliers for Everstart label are Johnson Controls and Exide, but they don't warranty them. That's between you and Walmart.

If the battery still has the bar code on it, take it to Walmart. They will scan it and tell you the date.
