I just purchased a Trimetric Monitor to use with my Morningstar TriStar 60 Charge Controller and also purchased the Battery Temperature Cable but the installation instructions are not clear to me.

They say to connect the sensor end of the wire "very near the batteries" but don't say anything about bolting it directly TO the battery bank. The sensor has a 3/8 hole in it which suggests to me it is to be connected to a battery terminal. Or might they want it bolted to the battery cabinet?

To what do I attach this thing?

That is nothing more than a temperature probe, and needs not further source of power, but needs to be close to the batts only to measure the air temp near them.

However, bolting it to the negative batt post is fine, can't get any closer than that huh!

Yes, attach to battery post. It's encased in the battery terminal but does not make electrical contact there.

I bought the Trimetric 2025RV. the case is white. haven't installed it yet.

I love my 2025RV. I think this should be standard equipment on all RV's.

I recommend you run the optional 5th wire to the chassis battery, it displays as B2. It is nice to keep track of the chassis battery at the same time. All you need is a 2 amp inline fuse and an extra wire to the chassis battery positive terminal.

If you are routing your wires in, under, and around things, figure 25 % more length than you think you need. Trust me, You will be glad you did.

I was thinking of installing regular Cat 5 wire from Home Depot.
(I think the spool I have in storage is 8 conductors)

Looks like Bogart thinks is OK to use small gauge wire.

How/where did you route yours to get inside of your coach?

My MH control panel (Water levels, Gen Start, slide control, Water heater control,etc.) is on my hallway wall. So I mounted it above it,ran the wires behind it,under the shower, under the sink, down into and through the utility compartment, then along the frame rail forward to the battery compartment.

I used 18 AWG wire twisted with a drill and installed in a wire loom, and continued with the 5th wire forward to the chassis battery. I used holes with wires already running through them then replaced expanding foam to reseal the holes.
