Battery woes
We have a 1989 Itasca Sunflyer. We stored it last year and when we got it out this year it would not start. we checked the main battery (bought a new one) still would not start. replaced the one solenoid that we could find after looking at the wiring diagram we found that we are supposed to have 2. Can anyone tell me where I can find the solenoid with the 5 amp fuses. I found the other one.
Thanks
Joy

When you have a no start situation we have to have more information. Is the new battery (B+) fully charged??? Clean both sets of terminals that go back on the B+ and that includes the opposite ends of both large cables. Now does anything happen when you try to crank the engine??? Do you hear any clicks??? If you hear nothing current is not getting to the starter solenoid. If you hear clicks every time you try to crank then some current is getting through but the solenoid may be old, corroded and is acting like a large resistance to the flow of current. You said that you've replaced a solenoid but we don't know which one you Start with these few tasks and let the forum know. I don't have access to a schematic so I'm sure somebody will chime in with that information. But you have to qualify the B+ and the terminal connections first.

Here is what we have done so far .. Cleaned all terminals, replaced the starter solenoid, bought a new battery . Check all fuses , replaced all 5 breakers. when we turn it over the brak light, choke, check engine light all come on until we release the key but we don't get anything else not even a click. Thanks

1989 Itasca. Our 1999 Dutch Star was on an F-53 chassis. I don't know what chassis you have but if it's a Ford there may be another solenoid on the (right) passenger side up on the side of the radiator mount or in that general area. That's the one that I finally found and changed and it solved my no crank situation. Change that and see what happens.
Also it helps if you tell us the chassis and engine size.

When turning ignition to ON, do the engine light, other dash lights, head lights, turn signals, horn and all other chassis appliances work?

You don't by any chance not have it in neutral or park ? The neutral safety switch is also in the line between the ign. switch and starter. Do you have a test light or volt meter ?

The other solenoids aren't involved in the starting circuit - just the starter solenoid. Odds are the starter/neutral switch is the culprit - it inhibits starting until the transmission is in neutral or park. If it isn't, or the switch thinks it isn't, no starting.
It's probably a Chevy P30/P32/P37 chassis if it has a 454 V8 engine.

Joyce, give Winnabago customer service a call. They should be able to give you all the info on your coach. If the rebuilt motor is the same as the original, you're probably sitting on a workhorse chassis.
