I used to do that until I ended up with rusty grills, which is almost as much of a problem with a big chunk of ceramic coating or rust in your burger. All the protective grease gets burned off. And you still need to brush or scrape them.
Now I just use a wire brush while it is still warm, and I check for bristles that are loose, both in the brush and in the grill. Brush gets tossed if it even starts to look worn.

As I understand it, "Burners" are people who go to the Burning Man festival in Blackrock, NV. LOL
