Has anyone used the British Columbia Inland Ferries. I am consider it for vacation this year and am a little concerned on the clearance with a 36 foot Class A motor home on 19" tires. I have used the ferries in the past with the truck and trailer.

Hi, Dave,

I've been on those ferrys manny times and I grew up on San Juan Island, and I'm completely sure you would not have any kind of clearance problem. There are car lanes which would not clear your MH but you would be loaded into an area which will have much more than an adaquate amount of overhead room. There isn't a ferry on any route that I know of that couldn't accomodate you these days.

We took a ferry across Okanagan Lake in BC last year. We were concerned about our 35' and our friends 40' motorhomes fitting on. Then we watched 3 fully loaded tandem trailer log trucks disembark with no problems. They can carry you.

My concern was not the weight or physical size, I was concerned about the clearance at the back under the chassis when you go up and down the ramp. Any thought?

We have used the ferries to San Juan with a 39' class A and had no problem with drag. Was told to watch the tide tables and be sure and NOT sail on low tide (that is when the angle is greatest on the ramp) Have not followed this advice, so we have been lucky or it is unfounded.

If you are asking about the main ferries (Mainland to Vancouver island) they can take anything you can offer at any tide. If you are wanting to go to one of the out islands like Hornby (fantastic place) it would be wise to watch the tide tables but probably not necessary as they have improved all the on - off ramps.
