Beaver door air seal relay
The relay for my door air seal keeps 'blowing'. Every time i replace it, it works for a short while and then blows again. Wondering if anyone has ideas as to what might cause this? I.e. what i should look for to correct this problem.

Is “blowing” electrical or air?

Electrical. My poor choice of words. The relay quits working. I replace with a new one and the system works for a short while, then quits again, needing another new relay.

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!
Can't help with the relay problem but noticed that you are kinda new on IRV2 and wanted to say hello! Have fun and keep her between the ditches!
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Need to check a failed relay and see what’s bad about it. Electrical winding burning out or breaking? What’s the relay operate? Air pump? Are the electrical contacts being burned up because the air pump is bad and drawing too much power? Replace the air pump.

Pretty sure it’s a air solenoid operated by a separate relay. Is the relay you’re using rated for continuous duty? For $12 you can buy a12V 150A continuous duty relay on EBay...4 wires.

Thanks. This gives me a few leads to follow up on. The 40 A relay that was originally there worked well for several years. Once it went, replacing with new 40 A, they go again quite quickly but I'd be leary about using a higher amp relay since the original 40 A worked well, so seems something else is now causing the problem.

Thanks alank. I opened the relay and nothing seems to show any signs of being burnt. The relay operates the air solenoid that feeds the air seal in the door.

Ok, so the solenoid looks good. It most likely operates a valve (not solenoid) that gets air from the engine compressor & tanks. If you can, take the output line off and see how well the valve works, turning air on & off. The solenoid could also operate a small compressor just for the door. I have no idea which way the seal gets it’s air.
Is this something that has happened several times or just a couple of times. It’s possible you got a new one that wasn’t very good.

Thanks. Ya I was wondering about possibly the quality of the replacement relays - 2 of them went out after replacing since the original went out. I'll try find another brand and try it. Original was a cole hershee, the replacements were pico, same rating etc.. If that doesn't work I'll try your other suggestion.
