Beaver Santiam 2004

Hi!

For those of you familiar with Beaver quality. Can you take a peek at this rig and tell me what you think? I'm looking for a safe ride that I can live in with my dogs while I'm "in between" stick built homes. I travel alone and safety is important to me.

I'm aware of the need to get an independent party to thoroughly check out chassis and coach - but was curious on you're experienced opinions as well.

Thanks!

2004 Beaver Santiam w/ 3 Slides 330 Diesel Cummins Wood Floors Warranty

I think it looks pretty nice!...one owner for 80k miles can be an indication of how reliable it might be...had it been through 3-4 different owners I might be a little leary. The tires being only a few years old and a 1 year warranty should give you some peace of mind too.

Looks like a good rig in the pictures (while that's not proof, for sure, if it DOESN'T look good in pictures, then my advice is always to RUN AWAY since they never look as good in person).

Only thing I'm mention is that depending upon your personal size, preference, the "throne room" can sometimes be a touch narrow when it's split the way this one is. If that's a concern you might want to ask them to measure the inside dimension and then sit down at home and figure out if that's narrow for you.

My only concern when I looked was that I noticed that says it has "Deep Slides." It only shows pics with slides extended. With the slides in can you and your dogs still walk easily from front to back? I've seen some where you have to put a slide out just to go to the bathroom or get a snack at a rest area. Otherwise it looks like a really nice cared for coach.

One thing I noticed is the web site has only older coaches. Not that there is anything wrong with an older coach, but wondering how they obtain them? The Beaver looks very nice.

Looks good to me. But I wonder - 330HP diesel - is it a Cat C7 or a Cummins ISB or ISC? Which transmission? Some people may not care but these things would matter to me.

It looks very close our 2002 rig. We like ours; throne room is fine; I am 6'1 and 270; fit just fine. Very roomy overall, RR8R chassis rides nice (with new comfort ride shocks) The fit and overall quality is very good, upper end. I think you will like it..... at the right price. TB

The porcelain throne, yes. I guess it's not as common a term as I thought

Note the signature for our coach... The Beaver (Monaco) Santiam is on a par with the Monaco Diplomat. For those wondering, it is a Cummins ISC engine with a 3000 series Allison transmission. Ours has just short of 100,000 miles and the only problem has been the standard ISC exhaust crack/warp. ($1400 @ Cummins)
The MH (motorhome) appears very clean but with a couple things I would check. First it has a Norcold 1200 series frig. Has the Norcold "fix" been installed? Possibly an Amish cooling unit installed? At the very least I would install an automatic fire extinguisher outside near the gas/electric heaters. Second, the bedroom TV is the Monaco analog "boat anchor" and since the seller appears to change out tv's, a new digital TV should be part of the deal.
As to the "deal", they've included PLENTY of extra money for negotiation room. NADA says $50K for low retail and $60K for retail. Last year we asked PPL RV (Google them) about ours and they said we should ask $50K for it.
Ask if add'l questions.......

I'll need to ask about moving thru the coach with a "deep slide" good point.

H.Miller: I don't know about the fridge but will ask. The lowest they said they will go is $69k. :( Guess I should go elsewhere?

Nice rig in the pics. But pictures can be deceiving. Maybe someone on the forum that lives in the area can go do a visual for you. Check out this post Dealing with RV broker?. Now read this one Need some eyes in Alvaredo, TX.

There is a similar coach for sale in New Hampshire. Very low miles always stored indoors and looks brand new.

"going elsewhere" is of course up to you but my original "low retail & retail" figures were rounded numbers. The "real numbers are $46,900 and $56.500". Don't know if a loan will be needed or insurance (collision) but either may prove to be a problem.
