I asked the same question earlier this year, and got the same response - Progressive Industries is the best. I bought a 30A portable Progressive unit for our mpg. When we go FT in a few years we will most likely have to buy a 50A one. That's okay with us. The mpg is a beginner's rig, so when we sell it the surge protector will go with it.

Progressive Industries SSP30 Smart Surge: 825 joules (some sites say 450 joules?)

I certainly see that the Progressive has more votes and some worthy comments. I sure would be nice if the joule ratings were the same (or more).
Hi Mike,
Your not missing anything. The number you have are correct. I thought you were comparing the EMS-HW30 which has a rating of 1820 joules.

I know the joule rating is higher on the TRC but their seems to be a lot of support for Progressive. I'm going with the Progressive 30amp surge protector. As they say, it was time to fish or cut bait.

I have the PT-50C by Progressive Industries. (Portable unit) It goes where I go.

Shortly after purchasing it seemed to have a problem. Called Progressive, UPS to them, 2nd day return. A year later I seemed to be having a problem. Called them, sent it to them, and they fixed it. It was not sealed properly where the short cord goes into the box.

It has protected me several times over the last 3 years. I would not be without it, and the Progressive Industries support is fantastic.

RVUpgrades seems to have the best pricing.

Good luck.
