Best Portable RV Air Compressor

What is the best recommended portable RV air compressor out there that I should look at? I just purchased a new set of Michelon tires and will be heading south the end of October, so I would like to buy a compressor before leaving.
Thanks for all inputs and opinions.

Believe it or not this little guy does a pretty good job of topping off RV tires.

I bought this for $99 (without the nail gun). I haven't used it on the RV yet, but it works really well for everything else I've tried it on. It's very compact and quiet.

Well Sir,
You're going to get a whole gauntlet of answers here so, I'll just throw my two cents in too. Many of us purchased this one for "topping off" tires and, it's a great little compressor. The one I have originally is a Sears unit but, if I'm not mistaken, Porter Cable has taken the design over and ran with it.

I use one of these for my Jeep, it is not fast but gets the job done when airing up my tires. Keep in mind that your coach tires require a lot of PSI and any small compressor will struggle to air up those tires. http://www.pepboys.com/product/details/9357343/00004

dlduck, you didn't give, and your profile doesn't list any coach info. The size of your tires could play into what is adequate for your use.

If you're rolling on 22.5 in tires you'll likely need something that will put out 150psi or it will take you a while to add a bit of air-- or you may actually be draining air. Something like this Porter Cable, available lots of places for around $150, give or take.

Note--if you buy an "inflator" [ie no storage tank] almost anyone will do--may just take longer to inflate a tire based on quality/capacity. If you decide on a compressor [ie has a storage tank], then you need to make sure both the max PSI and the cut-on pressure are above you minimum need for inflation--eg 100 to 120 PSI. Many "compressors" are designed to power air tools, which operate at a max of 90 PSI. IF the cut-on pressure is not above you desired tire inflation pressure, the tire and the compressor will reach equilibrium and you have to trick [bleed-off] the compressor to begin pumping again.

Viair makes some really well made 12 volt compressors/inflators. Many different models to choose from. Small, light weight, powerful. Many of their models have a 100% duty cycle, meaning they can pump forever without overheating!

With 22.5 inch tires @100+ PSI any of those silly 12volt compressors will have you waiting a LONG time. Bite the bullet, but a 150PSI pancake compressor. Lowes, Hone Depot, Sears all sell what is essentially the same unit. Pick the one that you feel will work best.

The pancake air compress is the way to go. Got mine on a black Friday sale at Home Depot for under $100 also at another Sears black Friday sale picked up one of those round mechanics seats on swivel wheels. No more bending over to check the air. I put them in the coach when I travel and keep in the home garage when I'm home. Used it blow out the water system as it the pressure is adjustable. Bought parts to make an adapter from the air quick connect to a hose connection.

Light, compact, no problem topping off 275/70/22.5's.

Takes all the stress out of tire air pressure management.

I just received a reconditioned Porter Cable 150# pancake compressor described above for $99.00, free shipping and 5 day delivery from CA. Works as well as the one I purchased about 7 years ago for the motorhome. This one is for my shop. Check Amazon.

I used a pancake compressor for a long time then bit the bullet and bought a ViAir 400P-RV. More expensive, but does an awesome job, lightweight, quick, and not nearly as noisy as running a portable pancake model or running your diesel engine to use the onboard air. Viair
. I've been extremely pleased with mine! RVGeeks did a great video about using it.

Some may think this is over the top but I use this beast:
Makita USA - Tool Details - MAC5200

It can inflate tires in the blink of an eye AND run my 1/2 inch impact wrench with ease. I do 90% of my own mechanic work so it's an amazing tool!
