Best time to to trade and buy new?

It is a well known fact that depreciation on RVs is huge and buying new is not the best financial decision. But if that is the direction one is heading, what is the optimum age to trade to maximize trade in value?
Is the best time to buy new just before the new year models come out or after they are out and dealers are anxious to move the previous year models?

Though it may depend upon the manufacturer and the dealer, we have found some great deals this time of year up north on last year's models.

Definitely look for leftovers. After months on the lot, dealers are motivated to move them and need the space for next years' models. Usually near the end of the year, but sometimes you'll find them sitting 18 months or more. Those are the deals that will minimize your depreciation hit over the following two years. Of course since you are getting a deal, the dealer will try to lowball your trade. That will depend on your negotiating skills. I'd optimize timing for the purchase and then push hard on the trade. That will maximize your value.
