Best venue for selling MH?

Anticipating buying a new MH this fall/winter. So, I'm not pressed for time. I would like to hear real world experiences in selling your MH.

I called the dealer where we purchased the MH in 2007 to get his actual selling price for comparable units and his trade in price. Unfortunately he doesn't sell the brand we want. I've also shopped other selling venues for asking price. So, I've arrived at a starting price somewhere in between trade in and retail selling price.

We're veteran sellers of all kinds of stuff on eBay, but their fees seem a bit steep for my taste on RVs. Craigslist is not a favorite place to sell because of the scammers. I already listed the MH on iRV2 since it is free. That leaves me with next two choices of rvtrader.com and rvt.com. We don't want to take the MH to a consignment dealer since we are still using it frequently. There are no local venues because of our rural location. Would like to hear of any other .com places that have reasonable fees and successful sales.

Would very much like to hear your suggestions.

We sold our motor home last year on Craig's List in 13 days! Only one looker ( they were local couple) and they bought it. I think we got lucky.
Had it on iRV2 and rvt also. Hundreds of hits, but not one contact!

When I bought my used MH, I searched on ebay, craigs list, Camping World and other dealers this forum, RV.net, etc. Anywhere that had used RVs for sale.

I too placed my coach for sale on iRV2.com classifieds. I thought I had it priced attractively, and included detailed description and 5 pictures. After 660+ "views" over 4 months without a single inquiry, I removed the ad.

I'm not sure, but aren't RVTrader.com and RVT.com the same?

Sold mine on Craigs also, about 5 weeks. Lots of inquiries and a few real low ball shots. Most problem I see is most people think their RV is special price wise, can't blame them but it's just another RV. Look at the average asking price, and be critical of your RV, then be prepared to drop your price by 10 percent in negotiations. I know the true hurts but if you want to sell! What hurts is getting a call back from one looker that lowballed and after looking around calls to off near your asking price and you just sold for a few $$ less.

I've bought and/or sold 3 MH's on Craig's List along with alot of other stuff. I live is NE Oklahoma and ran the last MH on CL/Dallas, KC, OKC as well as Tulsa. I sold it to a couple that live in far eastern Missouri. They found the my MH on the Dallas CL ad, drove to NE OK, bought the MH and paid CASH!! It took about 30 days to sell it.

I would encourage you to use Craig's List. There are ways to beat the scammers. Just follow the CL guidelines.

Agreed, Craigslist is one of the better free venues. In all of my CL ads I always insert a couple of BOLD LINES. "If you are reading this ad then the motorhome is still for sale. Please do not write and ask if it is as I will not respond." I am also very adamant about not calling the responder. I basically note that the CL anonymous mail system works great and until we have met in person and have made some negotiations then there is little need for me to give you my phone number.

I have also found that a good, honest description is valuable. You do yourself no good by leaving out obvious information. To a veteran shopper "tires look new" usually means you don't know how old the tires are or you don't want to admit how old they are. You are allowed 24 photos on CL. Use them all but showing the bedroom from 4 different angles is a waste. Get a photo of the roof, the ceiling and all the things that you would look for.

Scammers are out there but they are easy to detect. You may get the lowball offers from people who don't even come and look at it. They are merely hoping for a miracle.

Lastly with CL you do need to renew the ad every few days to keep it in the publics face. The class C we sold, we got exactly what we asked for it. We were honest about everything. Our class A was a 1993 Bounder. We took $900 less than the asking price, which is just about what we anticipated.

In short I find CL works quite well if you do more than make a posting that offers little info and either few or no pictures.
