So we are getting ready to head out to Bethpage in VA tomorrow morning. In doing some pre-trip investigations I have found out that the vast majority of their sites are grass sites without gravel or pavement.

We have a new VLDP that weighs in at 33K pounds. This sounds like a really bad idea on the face of it. Anyone been there? I am trying to figure out if this is something I am being too concerned about or if this should be cause for a re-think.

Thoughts?

As long as the ground you're pulling onto is firm and dry - you shouldn't have an issue. If it's an area that regularly used for camping - and it's not filled with deep ruts - you can be reasonably certain you'll be ok. If it's it's a little damp from a decent rain, if there are others parked around the spot you're looking to pull into - and they're not having issues - you should be good.

We're 43K pound with a tag axle and have parked on "unimproved" lots (no pad, no gravel, nothing but grass and dirt) countless times without a problem. Even if it rains heavily once your there - the worst case scenario is that you'll tear things up a little as you leave.

I camped there last year on a grass site. My rig is only about 11K but I saw numerous class A's on the grass with no issues. One thing I did notice and others commented in the reviews were that the deluxe sites that had a paved surface were very narrow. I thought Beth Page was a neat place. Check out the Friday night parade of tricked out golf carts. Amazing.

We have been to Bethpage several times in our motorhome (22,000 lbs) and have had no issues. My brother has a 33000 lb motorhome and he has not had any problems either - you will be fine.

You won't have a problem parking on the grass at Beth Page. Now getting run over by a golf cart,,,,. There will have been thousand of rigs in the past that have park on your intended site so the ground should be very firm even with the rain we've had the past few days.

Been there, done that. We are at 32,000 lbs and it did rain. When parking on grass, I suggest you put boards under your jacks - they will sink faster than your tires as more weight is concentrated in a smaller area.

We held an iRV2 rally there & didn't have issues. However, whenever parking on grass, always use pads under your jacks to spread the weight so they are less likely to sink if it does ran enough to soften up the ground.

Thanx guys. I might not use the jacks at all and just keep the coach on the air bags. Though I do have two sets of utility blocks that would let me use two per pad.
