Beware GMAC Insurance

I purchased GMAC Insurance last year because Good Sam advised it. The quote was reasonable and everything was covered to my satisfaction. This year, on renewal, they quoted a $400.00 increase. I had no claims or tickets. I was able to place my insurance with another major company at my last years rate. It seems as though GMAC is using bait and switch to lure new customers.

I wouldn't call it "bait and switch". They gave you a good price for the first year and now raised it. Good Sam does the same thing on most of their offerings.

Good to know as we have been looking at getting a policy.

At least you got the "good rate" for one year.

I have received quotes from them several times and they were always at least 60% higher than my current AAA (auto) and Progressive (motorhome) rates.

Their online quote seemed so high that I called their office, which happens to be about 15 miles from my home, to verify that the quote was accurate. It was.

I newk72,
Join the club, I gave up on GMAC many years ago. They do have a history of providing a teaser rate the first year.

I found that I could do better with my local independent agent.

GMAC's rate in Texas was much lower than my then-current provider (Progressive.) If the rates go up excessively I'll just shop for another provider, there is no shortage of them.

About 10 days ago ResCap, LLC, the parent company of GMAC Mortgage, filed
for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, to restructure.
But who knows if there is actually any connection between GMAC Mortgage
and GMAC Insurance.
Same name doesn't always mean same company...

Anyone who knows how to use Google .

All the former GMAC businesses (including ResCap) are now owned by Ally Financial. The mortgage operation is being put into bankruptcy as a result of lingering fallout from the subprime mortgage debacle. There is no impact to the other divisions.

I just switched to GMAC, as they had the best price for the same coverage. If they teased me in, I'll switch back next year.... No biggie.

YUP - one of my biggest pet peeves - folks who have been using Internet for YEARS - but STILL don't have a clue what that "Search" function up at the top of their PC screen is, or can do.

NOW, to the GMAC issue - had a very bad and frustrating experience with GMAC coverage back in the '80's - on a 1-ton Chevy van - after banging heads with idiots clear up the corporate ladder, just had to give up - and will NEVER use or recommend GMAC warranty insurance again - low rates are worthless, when the coverage itself is ALSO worthless!

The other one I don't understand is asking a question so broad that
without details, there is no way to answer it...

And then the ever popular, "Which is better............?"

Gas or diesel.
Class A or C.
Flat tow or dolly.
RVpark or WallyWorld.
Gun or no gun.
Whips or chains.
