Big block gas

While in a doctor's waiting room today, I happened to be reading an RV magazine called RV PRO. My first surprise was that this edition was Nov. 2015 , and that it was in a dr's office. Second was a very good article on a co. called Power Solutions Intl. Anyone know about them? seems they are introducing a line of gas engines aimed at the rv market. Largest is a 500 hp V-8, 8.8 ltr. high speed version gives 585 ft lbs &4000 rpm, with a low speed version giving 524 ftlbs @2400 rpms .supposed to fit same space as the old 8.1 chevy. However they are looking to get into the new RV market with some of these engines. Nurse called before I could rip pages and stuff them in my pocket. Some members may have already posted about this, if so, excuse me , I did a quick search but did not see any posts. I love my DP but who knows ,they might sell this as pusher also.

It's a wonderful concept...but who will make it?
Workhorse to Re-Enter RV Chassis Market

Ford's F53 is currently the only gas chassis in North America.

Thanks Guys . I thought someone had already mentioned this, just didn't look hard enough. But seems as though there has been no new news

Could be Spartan. They seem to be loosing their grip on the DP market to Freightliner.

YES, that is the question. Both "new" Workhorse and Spartan had made pre-mature PR about building a chassis using the PSI 8.8L V8. However, that was before PSI had secured EPA approval for on-highway use with gasoline as the fuel. NOW, PSI is claiming they have the necessary certification, so we wait to see further PR as to which chassis maker will be first to market and which coach builder will offer an alternative to the Ford F53, which currently holds a firm grip on 100% of the gas Class A market.

According to this article Spartan was to debut a concept chassis with the PSI engine in it at the late November Louisville National RV Trade Show.

Does anybody know if that in fact happened and what the manufactuer / dealer response was?

Interesting that they refer to a 540 inch BBC as a 'completely redesigned' engine. Built a 520 incher a few years back, made 450 hp @ 4200 600 lb.ft. @ 2800. Moved a 31 Bluebird Wanderlodge pretty well, got just under 6 mpg @ 60 mph. Sold it.

Without me doing a bunch of searching, my guess is this is just a +1/4 inch stroked 8.1 big block Chevy engine. That is not a criticism, the extra stroke is great for torque. The 8.1 engine already has siamesed cylinder bores, so not much more room for increased bore size. A 4.25 inch stroke crank would fit the block, it is quite popular to do the same +1/4 stroke in a 454 (same architecture, but smaller bore non-siamesed cylinders). Add better breathing cylinder heads than the 8.1 and camshaft profile, it should be a good engine for the MH application.

That is why my previous post described the PRs as "Premature". That was 3 years ago, and we've still not seen an Extol from Spartan or ANY RV chassis from "New" Workhorse.

I clearly need better glasses as I did not see that 2012 date! Thanks for pointing it out.

At least we know they are prepared to support the PSI engine.
