I just checked my home town prices on gas buddy. Flying J -$2.33, SAMs club $1.95. That 38 cents a gallon difference and I hold nearly 200 gallons. In theory that's saving $78.00 (but of course no one is going to run it dry and then fill up).

With a large tank I can start looking at a half tank (700 miles) knowing that I can pick and choose. If I see one that looks handy and cheap I pull in and top off. That is the method to my madness and to me $78.00 ain't chicken feed. To each his own.

Had a GS card since 2008. I used it once t get gas and 2x to buy something in the store. It expires last month and I didn't bother to renew.
Gasbuddy works for me.

I use gas buddy and a PenFed card. Just returned in July from a long trip. We traveled around the USA three months and over 10K miles. Don't know how much I saved by using gas buddy but I'd think a bunch. Yes, Flying J, Loves, etc do charge up to 30 cents a more in most areas.

Tough to argue with a 38 cent difference, but I'm mostly seeing less than that. Still, even 20 cents makes a difference on 100+ gallons of fuel (my usual fill-up is about 110-120.)

My Pilot/FJ account hasn't been used at all this year and only once last year. Have consistently found a much better deal at other stations that also had good accessibility and high speed pumps.

You especially want to buy fuel before you enter Oregon and WA now. In the last couple of months they've raised their fuel taxes $0.40 per gallon - people won't notice because fuels so cheap now..........

As for truck stops, I haven't bought fuel in them for years now. It's always cheaper elsewhere. Primarily I get it at either Fred's /Kroger's or Sam's Club. I can fit my 40' DP and toad into just about all of them. With Fred's you get $.10 off for every $100 worth of groceries you buy. At Sam's they have huge parking lots as they're always part of WalMart. While I'm fueling the DW can grocery shop so we take care of two things in one stop.

And of course we always use Gas Buddy to check prices.
