Bike Carrier

Any suggestions? We are looking to get one to haul four (4) bikes in the hitch of our SUV.

Curious what everyone is using and pros and cons of experiences with it.

Thank you in advance.

Any ideas..Swagman, Draw-Tite. Reese, and about 100 other companies all make 4 bike carriers. Camping world ____RV, Sears,, JC Witny, Caballes And many other stores also sell them As do Bicycle stores.

Google: Bicycle Carriers

Have tried 3 different racks, Swagman is best by far. Stay away from racks where the bike hangs. Get a rack that holds the bike from the bottom, like the Swagman.

Good luck!

Why not a roof rack like a Yakama or Thule?

We have a Swagman, well built, works great- The best in my opinion. Fits into receiver hitch.

Top 20 list from a good on line dealer. Do not go cheapo. I had the traditional L shaped 4 bike rack on the back of a trailer with a receiver hitch for the rack, which of course bounces like crazy. Was on PA turnpike and cars started honking and yelling to pull over. The L rack had turned into an I rack and our 3 bikes were dragging along the highway. The daughter's bike was on last and the handle bar and brake handle had worn off it as it must have dragged at 65-70 for several miles. It was a real challenge making room for 3 bikes without a hitch to the next town that had a bike shop and by then price was no object. Plus I had to buy parts to repair the daughters bike as the shop would not make the time

The biggest problem is to find out how you will attach it to the hitch/draw bar and find an appropriate system. I have a Swagman that attaches around the draw bar.

When you have all those bikes mounted up for the first time, please take a minute and make sure your brake and turn signal lights are still plainly visible. One of the worst scares of my life happened recently, and was caused by bikes loaded up in a manner that completely blocked the vehicle's brake lights.
