Bilstein shocks

I just returned home from a 3 month trip to Alaska in a 2003 29ft R-Vision Stratus, model 262 (I think) has the 8.1 GM engine and independent front suspension. I pulled a 06 Ford Ranger club cab. There were stretches of bad road throughout Canada and Alaska, but the worst was the Whitehorse Yukon to Tok Alaska. The motorhome did great, no problems with any appliances or mechanical. The total trip was 12820 miles from south Georgia, via California and I put 4500 on the Ranger. We kept very careful cost data, and the motorhome averaged 9.75mpg for total trip.
Not long before leaving I had read a number of comments about how what a great shock the Bilstein is, well I took a new set of Monroes off of the front and installed the Bilsteins, out on the interstate they provided a great ride, very soft. But the only problem I had on total trip was the left front shock broke at the weld to the top fitting. I should have been suspicious of the shocks from the onset, have not weighed them but I doubt that the Bilstein weighs half as much as the Monroe. When I got home I put the Monroes back on, and I think I will be happy with them. I now have one Bilstein shock cat# 24-011730 with 13,000 miles (rough) on it that anyone can have free of charge, just pay the shipping.
The trip was a long time dream and it was everything I had hoped for, will go again before too long.
have a great day
