Bird Strikes

Hello All,

Driving through Wisconsin last week, I had a run-in with a bird (small, starling or something similar) that could not get out of the way of my MH in time and hit the windshield. Call me soft: I do not have any problem with bug getting flattened (there are so MANY of them, and they bite), but I feel bad about hitting birds. This happens so seldom in a car, as they can usually get out of the way - but in this case with the big front on the Class A MH the little guy was clearly trying, but just could not get out of the way in time. So my question to you all who have been doing this for a while is how often do you end up hitting birds?? Do they usually end up able to clear the big flat front end of a Class A, or is the frequency of bird strikes in a Class a higher than for a car, and if so, by how much??

Only had one bird strike my RV in 8 years and 68,000 miles. Most seem to be pushed out of the way by the bow shock air.

We had the misfortune,(for the bird) of one hitting the passenger side mirror this past May while enroute to Texas. Broke the lower convex mirror and did a "JOB" on the bird.

Never hit one with the RV, but was driving my pickup recently when I heard something hit my fiberglass CB antenna. I looked in the rear view and there was a cloud of feathers behind me. I never saw the bird, but I imagine he didn't fare so well.

I always feel bad when something like that happens.

Never hit one in the MH or any car, but sure hit one at 60+ on a motorcycle. It broke the windshield on my fairing and hit me in the chest, sure glad I had my leather jacket on that day. Pulled over and cleaned the mess off me and the bike. Bird didn't make it. Made me a little nervous every time I would see a bird when riding my bike for a long time. It appeared to be a crow that was snacking on a dead rabbit. Actually bruised my chest. Love a helmet with full face shield.

Followed my Son up Hwy 3 in Illinois in Juneand saw 3 birds fly at his Harley and get hit three different times. Ever watch how Pigeons fly down off a bridge and dive at the cars and when they just about hit you they pull up? Backfire your engine(before fuel injection) And they keep on diving. Went home lots of times with feathers in my ladder racks.

Also had a Duck come through my windshield of my C-310 at 4500 ft . Splattered on the back wall.

We haven't had it happen in 46,000 miles but a member posted photos not long ago of what happened when a wild turkey hit his windshield. Not pretty.

Yeah a turkey would have been real bad. Was in a 74 3/4 T ford hiboy when my buddy ran into a herd of Elk. Pushed the front end back so hard I had to use both feet to open the pass. door. The elk limped away, we got towed, fan went into radiator. Too bad it was only deer season.

When leaving Coffeyville, Ks last winter after getting done working at Amazon we had a great blue heron fly right into the side of our coach. Glad it missed the windows, but boy did it leave a horrible brown mess (sh..) all over the side of the MH. Just glad it did not come through a window. Would not have wanted to clean up that mess inside the coach.
